It's coming...
Even though your eyes are open to something, and you're completely aware of it, sometimes you need a reminder of what's really going on. Last night was family movie night, and we all went to see "V for Vendetta". Needless to say, my husband and I are pumped that the movie presented such a bold message not just to the world, but specifically the American public. We were so moved, we went home and had a mini and yes, quite early Guy Fawkes celebration in our backyard, setting off one tiny tank shaped firecracker. So, where am I going with this? According to my husband, Mr. Comic Book Extraordinaire, "V for Vendetta" was originally published during George Senior's reign as president. If only they had known at the time what his son was going to do! Though set in a futuristic, police-state London, the movie portrayed exactly what America is becoming and in some ways, already has become.
America is a media and corporate controlled environment. You see what they want you to see and you know what they want you to know. I can't stand watching the nightly news. Sure, they need to report what happens locally, nationally, globally, but did you ever notice that they only report violent, negative and corporate geared messages? Violence in the streets, drugs in the schools, America at war, pharmaceutical companies sponsoring news segments. It's all a ploy to keep us right where they want us. Sure, they show some good news: a student gets honored for doing some great deed or a soldier comes home from Iraq. Do you know where those stories are placed? After the the sports report at the very end. How many people continue to watch the news after they get their scores? I guess they're trying to make it as though they're ending the news on a good note, but in fact, they just don't want you to know that anything good is actually happening out there. They want to keep you in fear.
Then we get to the pharmaceutical companies. Can anyone explain the point of taking a medicine that will in fact kill you or at least give you additional problems to your existing condition? "If you experience increased heart rate, vomiting, dizziness and/or drowsiness, contact your doctor. In some cases this medication has caused sudden and unexplainable death." Umm, yeah, I'll pass. If you've got a heart condition, you'll probably end up with cancer, and if you have arthritis, you'll probably end up dead. Does that make any sense? "But it will make you feel better." Yeah, until you're dead!
Whatever happened to good old-fashioned home remedies. My mother gave me old school remedies (many of which tasted horrible), but she kept me out of the doctor's office until I came down with a bad case of the flu in high school (after I had the flu shot, no less). Now, everyone is looking for the easy way out, and they're willing to kill themselves to do it. It's just one more way to control us. "I'm not going to take natural remedies; it's too much work." "Take this. It'll make you feel better--and fast!" That gives them power and they're raping you and your wallet to keep it that way. They have cures for just about everything, but if everyone was able to be cured, how would the pharmaceutical companies survive? They wouldn't, and that's their big plan. "Give them just enough to keep them alive, but make sure it keeps them just sick enough so that they have to keep buying the medication." The bird flu? Sure, they'll tell you they're months away from a cure. Nope, they've got it, but they're keeping you on the edge of your seat until the last moment, when boom! "We've got a cure! See how good of a government we are? We're looking out for you." Uh huh...
And, of course, my favorite...our school systems. If you've read my blogs before, you know my mother is a substitute teacher in the local school system. The stories she tells me! Kids are no longer allowed to defend themselves. They are no more bullies, no name calling, no after school fights. Not that children should be violent, but I'm sorry, kids need to be kids. They all have the same pleasant smiles on their faces. They no longer have to spell correctly. Fonetik is just fine (oooo, look, I'm trying to be dumb, too!). Mom has one boy in second grade who can't read! He's in second grade! Oh, right...no child left behind. "Push them all forward, keep them all dumb and we'll shape them the way we want to so they'll be more submissive to our cause." They don't know history or math. The classic question, "When was the war of 1812?" "I don't know, 1776?" Every student has to learn the exact same thing, at the exact same time, at the exact same pace, and the longer they can keep them stupid, the easier it will be to make them into the little automotrons they want them to become.
And the American government's impact on the world? Yeah, not a good thing. The weapons of mass destruction don't exist, and if they do, they're looking in the wrong place. George Bush has now taken his mission to a whole new level--the Iraqi Civil War. Okay, so we got Saddam. Good job. We've given them guidance on starting they're "democracy" (not that the USA even knows what that is anymore), and instead of getting out when the time was right, we've moved them straight into a civil war. I'm sorry, but that just doesn't seem right. And all GW has to say about it is, "Sometimes lives have to be sacrificed for the better good" (note: that's a paraphrase). You've sacrificed enough American lives during your reign of terror and now you think it's okay for another country's citizens to die because you're on a mission? Listen, it's their country, and if they want to kill themselves, then let them do it on their own time, on their own agenda. Get our troops out of there, and save some Americans for a change. Isn't the president supposed to have some amount of honor and pride for his country, citizens and military?
I never thought I'd feel this way. When I was little, I was so proud to say the Pledge of Allegiance, I knew every patriotic song, I knew our history so well, and now, I can't even look at the flag when I say the Pledge. Why should I? What am I pledging myself to? Half the time, I feel like I'm in Mexico anyway. No one speaks English anymore (and no, we have never spoken American--there is no such thing!). I used to be proud to see the Statue of Liberty. Now she's just a shell of what used to be a great country and a great idea. I used to want a house in England or Scotland just because it was so beautiful there. Now I want to move just to get out of this damned place. At least I still have respect for the Queen (I'm available for tea any day, Your Majesty).
America is going down the drain fast, and it's time to take stand. I know I have at least a couple people behind me and my husband beside me. I hope those of you reading this will take time to look around you and notice what's really going on. Don't be complacent with what's on television. And if you still don't know what I'm talking about, go see "V for Vendetta", it'll do you some good. It's coming, and we're far closer than anyone realizes.
